Streets Taken places the photographs and archival materials of Edward Schwartz from the Rare Book and Manuscript Library (RBML) in conversation with new works from current MFA Visual Arts student Francisco Javier Ramírez. The exhibition was curated by Melina Moe, Curator of Literature at the RBML. Read more about the exhibition.
Now in its second year, the Rare Books & Manuscript Library collaboration with the Visual Arts Department grants a research award to students to produce new works in response to Columbia’s archives. Last year the research award went to Sharon Lee '25, Javier Griffey '25, and Vivien Sweet (CC '25), to produce works in response to the Coney Island archives.
On view in the third-floor display cases at Butler Library, the show runs through November 2025.
Streets Taken is a collaboration between Columbia University Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Columbia University's Department of Fine Arts, and the School of the Arts.
