Hosted by the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center, the Movement Recovery Seminar Series is a monthly series for the community of scientist and clinicians working towards the common goal of recovery of function.
This seminar is suitable for clinicians and researchers. It is not suitable for patient famililes.
Join us on Friday September 15th, 2023 at 12:00 noon for the following seminar:
- Speaker: Michael Jigo, PhD, Lead Clinical Neuroscientist, Sharper Sense
- Lecture: Non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation for on-demand enhancement of central sensory processing
- Abstract:
Accurate and detailed central sensory processing is vital for completing a large variety of tasks, including many necessary for daily life and independent living. However, cognitive constraints including aging, inattention, neurological dysfunction, and fatigue can reduce the precision with which the brain processes sensory information. Methods that rapidly enhance sensory performance have the potential to quickly relieve symptoms of impaired central sensory processing (e.g., difficulty understanding speech in noise). This talk will discuss a study designed to investigate the effectiveness of neuromodulation via non-invasive vagus nerve stimulation as a means for immediately improving sensory performance in neurotypical human adults.
