Intro to Pure Data (Music Technology Workshops Series)

February 20, 2025
3:30 PM - 5:00 PM
America/New_York
Dodge Hall, 2960 Broadway, New York, NY 10027 Gabe M. Wiener Music & Arts Library

This workshop covers the basics of the free graphical audio programming language Pure Data. We will go over the basic object types, signal flow, and build some basic patches as a group. There will be space to try your own patches at the end based on your own ideas or from given prompts. We will also go over Automatism, an extension of Pure Data with a modular synthesis workflow.

It is recommended you bring your own laptop if you wish to participate in the patching.

The workshop will be held in the Seminar Room of the Music & Arts Library, 701 Dodge. Ask at the desk for directions to the Seminar Room.

This workshop is taught by MFA Sound Art graduate student Miles Scharff, and is part of the Music Technology Workshops Series, co-sponsored by the Music & Arts Library and the Libraries' Digital Scholarship program.
