In this workshop, there will be a basic overview of the Max/MSP software interface. Max/MSP is a powerful tool for a wide variety of audio tasks, and can be used to many ends in the production of digital music and audio-based works. It is a graphical programming environment which allows for almost endless ways to manipulate audio. Topics covered in this workshop will include creating a new project, importing audio, basic sound-synthesis, randomized audio playback, and timed audio playback. No prior musical or audio editing experience required.
Bringing your laptop with Max/MSP installed is recommended, but not required. Free trial versions of Max/MSP are available on the Cycling74 website.
This workshop is part of a three-part mini-series, which also includes an introduction to the audio production software Ableton Live and the ways in which Max/MSP and Ableton Live can be used together. Attendance at other workshops in this series is recommended, but not required.
This workshop is taught by John Thomas Levee. He is an artist and composer, who is currently pursuing his MFA in Sound Art at Columbia University.
