Intro to Linux (HPC Training Series #1)

April 3, 2025
2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
America/New_York
Online Event

The CUIT Research Services HPC Training Series is designed to onboard researchers to shared high-performance computing (HPC) resources at Columbia. Led by HPC engineers, these hands-on sessions will introduce participants to Columbia’s shared on-prem HPC clusters, (Insomnia, Manitou, and Ginsburg) and provide foundational skills for effectively leveraging these resources. Whether you're new to HPC or looking to refine your skills, this series will guide you through essential tools and workflows for running computational research efficiently.

These workshops are designed to help new users get started with HPC resources and build foundational skills for their research computing needs. You can take one or all of the courses, depending on your needs.

Intro to Linux (Training Series #1)

In this workshop, we'll introduce you to the fundamentals of Linux, starting with what Linux is and a brief history of its development. We'll also cover key topics such as troubleshooting in Linux, navigating the file system, and performing file manipulation tasks. Additionally, we'll explore using text editors to work with files, giving you the essential skills needed to effectively use Linux in both personal and professional environments.
