This workshop will be split in two parts.
The first part of the workshop will offer an introduction to electronic music where we will learn briefly about the history and the technology behind it, we will take a look at different ways to make electronic music and learn how to work on it independently.
The second part of the workshop will focus on the free software VCV rack, a modular synth simulator. We will discuss the basic signal and patching flow of modular synthesis including module types, waveshapes, and time. We will explore and patch together in the spirit of electronic music.
No previous experience is required. Participants are encouraged (but not required) to bring their own laptops to the session.
The workshop will be held in the Seminar Room of the Music & Arts Library, 701 Dodge. Ask at the desk for directions to the Seminar Room.
This workshop is co-taught by MFA Sound Art graduate students Ása Ólafsdóttir and Miles Scharff, and is part of the Music Technology Workshops Series, co-sponsored by the Music & Arts Library and the Libraries' Digital Scholarship program.
