Title: "National Trends in Opioid-Related Hospitalizations and Emergency Department Visits Among Adult Patients with Cancers"
Description: Opioid-related health issues are an increasing concern among patients with cancer. Despite the implementation of more restrictive opioids prescribing policies in mid-2010s, national trends in opioid-related hospitalizations (ORHs), opioid-related emergency department visits (OREDs), and opioid-related comorbidities (ORCs) in this population remain sparse. In this presentation, I will first prescribe the trend in ORHs, OREDs, and ORCs from 2000 to 2022 using National Inpatient Sample (NIS) and National Emergency Department Sample (NEDS) to provide a national landscape of opioid-related burden among adult patients with cancer. I will then examine factors associated with ORHs, OREDs, and ORCs in recent years to identify potential targets for interventions in the context of the evolving opioid epidemic.
