Genetic Causes of Cerebral Palsy - Webinar

February 25, 2026
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM
America/New_York
Online Event

Join the first session of the new six-part “Genetic Causes of CP” webinar series, hosted by the Cerebral Palsy Research Network for families, adults with CP, and clinicians. The webinar will feature pediatric neurologist Jennifer M. Bain, MD, PhD, who leads the Genetic Program at Columbia's Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center.

Webinar agenda:

  1. Paul Gross, CP Research Network CEO and co-founder, will share the network’s strategy for expanding research and awareness about the importance of genetic testing in CP.
  2. Dr. Jennifer Bain, a pediatric neurologist at Columbia University, will explain the latest findings about genetic causes of CP in clear and practical terms.
  3. Emily Amerson, President of CTNNB1 Connect and Cure (an organization for one type of genetic CP) will share her family’s diagnostic journey with her daughter Savannah. Her story reflects what many families experience: years of searching for answers before receiving a genetic diagnosis.
  4. Finally, Jess Hess, Associate Director of Patient Advocacy & Engagement at GeneDx, will describe programs available to support access to genetic testing and genetic counseling for individuals with CP and their families.

Why Genetics in Cerebral Palsy Matters

Approximately 25-30 percent of people with CP may have an underlying genetic cause. Identifying a genetic cause for a person’s CP can lead to important changes in how their healthcare is managed. This information can affect treatment decisions, medical management, and access to new therapies.
