The Ebola virus disease outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), first detected in May of this year, has quickly developed into major health threat, with the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. No current vaccines or treatments exist for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, which has been spreading rapidly across the region. Armed conflict and geographic obstacles are complicating response efforts.
In this special webinar – co-sponsored by ICAP at Columbia University and the NYC Preparedness & Recovery Institute – global health experts will provide a situation update on the evolving outbreak in DRC, outline the threat to the region and the rest of the world, review lessons learned from previous Ebola outbreaks, and explore scenarios for an effective response.
