Join us to experiment, break things, and imagine new possibilities. Data Club meetings are meetings, not workshops. An introduction to a bit of software is followed by opportunities to try the software in your own environment and on your own terms.
Handling large datasets in R using your own laptop or desktop can be challenging—there’s no one-size-fits-all solution, especially given the language’s memory and performance constraints.
In this workshop, we’ll explore some practical strategies for supporting data-intensive research tasks in R, tailored to different scenarios and research needs. Our goal is to expand your toolkit and mindset, empowering you to find effective, adaptable approaches for your own projects.
Topics covered: R, large data
Data Club meetings occur six times a semester. Open to everyone in the Columbia community, these informal events typically start with a presentation on a specific use of data in Python, R, Julia, or JavaScript, then open up to questions, collaborative work, and discussion. Computation typically occurs within an online notebook workflow, and participants of all skill levels are welcome.
Please bring a laptop!
