Data Club: Intro to Julia for Python Users

March 3, 2022

Do you use Python or R and want to expand your repertoire?  Are you a newcomer to programming who wants to start at the cutting edge, a Matlab user looking for an open-source language that won't slow you down, or a veteran coder on the perpetual quest for a perfect programming language?

Come to Intro to Julia for Python Users, a workshop geared towards people familiar with python who want to start working with the Julia programming language.  We will review the many syntactical similarities between Python and Julia and then explore important Julia concepts that help speed up Pythonic Julia programs.  Basic knowledge of Python is suggested.

Sponsored by Columbia University Libraries Research Data Services, Data Club provides a regular opportunity for those interested in analyzing data with open source computing to meet up and learn. Data Club meetups occur twice-monthly throughout the semester. Open to everyone in the Columbia community, these informal, hour-long events start with a presentation on a specific use case for Python, R, or Julia. They then open up to questions, collaborative work, and discussion. Computation occurs within a Jupyter or Google Colab workflow, and participants of all skill levels are welcome.
