CUHJI Morningside Campus Walking Tour

October 30, 2021
1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
America/New_York
John Jay Hall, 519 W. 114 St., New York, NY 10027

Columbia University Historical Justice Initiative's (CUHJI) walking tour of the Morningside Heights campus recounts the hidden stories of the university, a deeply troubled and contentious space that is also one of the most powerful centers of knowledge production in the world. In doing so, the tour highlights the university’s history of slavery, colonization, and their afterlives, as well as its role in currents of social justice and movements for abolition. Perhaps most importantly, it highlights untold stories of students, faculty, and employees on the margins of the university and society, as stories of their progress and perseverance remain in obscurity still.

We will meet in front of John Jay Hall at 1PM. Email [email protected] with any questions about this tour. Please email [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> and [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> to request disability accommodations. Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.

This series was made possible thanks to the Office of the Vice Provost for Faculty Advancement.
