WHAT WE'VE BEEN UP TO

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Ongoing Throughout the Year — Community Engagement

We hosted a CUIT Q&A session about data security and an advising focus group to hear directly from staff about your data needs and questions. We also produced a series of training sessions, with recordings available for you to revisit at any time (links above).

We expanded the Data & Business Glossary, Reporting Inventory, and Technology Catalog (links above).

Budget & Estimate Definitions

The committee reviewed and refined our definitions around targets and estimates, bringing clarity and consistency to how these terms are used across reporting. An updated process is now in place to ensure proper terms are used when discussing original budget targets and updated estimates.

Pre-College Revenue & All Student Slate Reports

We collaborated with the Pre-College and Admissions teams to eliminate reporting inconsistencies that resulted in misalignment. This cross-team effort aligned multiple reports to all be using the same methodology in progress tracking toward targets.

LET'S WORK TOGETHER

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Data governance works best when it's a shared effort. We actively encourage other teams across SPS to reach out — whether you have a specific data question, want to think through a reporting challenge, or are curious about how governance applies to your work. Think of the committee as a resource and a partner.

We're here to help and support your team's work with data. If you have additional questions, concerns, or feedback we haven't addressed, please don't hesitate to reach out. We're here to listen and respond.

WHAT'S AHEAD

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Looking ahead to the new year, the committee will be focused on three key areas:

• AI policy & data governance coordination — developing institutional guidance on how AI tools interact with our data practices

• Walled gardens & enterprise solutions — establishing clearer boundaries for sensitive data and supporting the adoption of enterprise-level tools

• Expansion of the Business Glossary to reflect the most up-to-date data fields and methodologies used across SPS

We'll share more as these projects take shape, and we welcome your input along the way.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Thank you for your engagement and support of this work. It's been a meaningful year, and we're looking forward to building on it together.

Warm regards,

The SPS Data Governance Committee
